2008-2009 20th Anniversary Season A Feast of Delectable Discoveries
Savor a flavorful fundraising concert and party in the intimate
setting of Josiah Smith Tavern in Weston. Encore performances of
exceptional Old Post Road discoveries by composers from across Europe
will be the main fare, including works by the Pla brothers, Bodinus,
Buffardin, and Lotti, along with some recently discovered pieces by
J. S. Bach and C. H. Graun. Accenting the musical menu will be
complementary samplings of food, wine, and champagne from Spain,
Italy, France, and Germany. Party like its 1736!

The Humanity and Humor of Mozart and HaydnThe extraordinary emotional range of two great Classical masters is revealed in this program of exquisite, quintessential chamber works of the Classical era. The program will include Mozarts Piano Quartet in Eb Major, K.493, Haydns Piano Trio in F Major and his flute quartet in D Major, and Mozarts chamber arrangement of his Piano Concerto in C Major, K.415, with fortepiano soloist Michael Bahmann

Christmas in Baroque EuropeCelebrate the season with Old Post Road and a rich array of glorious Baroque Christmas music from across the European continent. Colorful offerings will include a villancico of Sebastián Durón, a cantata by Telemann, French noëls by Corrette, and the recently discovered Gloria attributed to George Frideric Handel. The ensemble will be joined by superb soloists Kristen Watson, soprano, and Deborah Rentz-Moore, mezzo-soprano.

Bach and His LegacyRevered as pedagogue as well as composer and performer, Johann Sebastian Bach attracted students who aspired to learn from the masters technical prowess and expressive force while forging works in their own unique styles. This program will present exquisite trio and solo sonatas by J. S. Bach, his sons Wilhelm Friedemann and Carl Philip Emmanuel, and his star pupils Johann Philipp Kirnberger and Johann Gottlieb Goldberg.

In Celebration of HandelOld Post Road closes its anniversary season by celebrating the 250th anniversary year of George Frideric Handel. Selections include his passionate solo cantata Mi palpita il cor, the charming pastoral cantata Tra le fiamme, a delightful keyboard concerto, and other fine instrumental works. With guest soloist Deborah Rentz-Moore, mezzo-soprano.
