Our 30th anniversary “Enlightenment” season saw record numbers of attendees at concerts—we are so excited that our unique programming and musical “rediscoveries” are continuing to inspire interest and reach a broader audience. Building on this momentum, we are thrilled to announce “Finding Home” as the programming theme for our 31st season which begins in Fall 2019.

In addition to exploring the meaning of “home” for musicians in past centuries, our programming features compelling and dramatic vocal works that have homecomings as their theme. The topic is also close to our hearts for another reason: serendipitously, we have recently moved to a bright new office space (our new home!) in the Community Arts wing of Peace Lutheran Church in Wayland.

Our opening program in November, Harmony at Home, explores extraordinarily fruitful musical relationships within two musical families: that of siblings Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn and that of husband and wife Jan Ladislav and Sophia Corri Dussek. The program features Felix Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No.1 in his own arrangement for flute, cello, and piano, Fanny Mendelssohn’s Adagio for violin and piano, J. L. Dussek’s Piano Trio in E Minor, op.2, and Sophia Dussek’s Flute Sonata No.1. The original period instruments (not replicas!) used for this program will bring the early 19th-century salon to life!

The guiding light of Epiphany will shine warmly in our December holiday concert, Christmas Pilgrimage. The ensemble will premiere another of Christoph Graupner’s gems for the season, the cantata Das Volk so im Finstern wandelt (The people that wandered in darkness). Telemann’s ecstatic cantata Der mit Sunden beleidigte Heiland and pastorales by Heinichen and Pez complete the program. Four superb soloists join us for this spirited program: soprano Jessica Petrus, alto Sophie Micheaux, tenor Jason McStoots, and baritone Bradford Gleim.

Our March program, The Lure of London, presents virtuoso Baroque instrumental works by Italians who immigrated to London to engage with its lively music scene. The program includes trio sonatas by Locatelli, Platti, and Tessarini, a lively capriccio for strings and continuo by Veracini, a lyrical flute concerto by Sammartini, and a spirited cello sonata by Cervetto.

Our season finale in May, Dramatic Return, features French Baroque cantatas and instrumental works, including Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre’s daring cantata Le Passage sur la mer rouge (based on the biblical story), Clerambault’s epic cantata Leandre et Hero, along with transporting instrumental works of Clerambault and Charpentier.
