Our 2017-18 Season Partner

In keeping with MOPR’s interest in educational outreach and the cultural enrichment of young listeners, we have chosen to partner with the non-profit educational service organization Open Circle this season. As our in-school musical presentations foster listening skills and focus on the communication of emotions through music, we appreciate and support the work of Open Circle!

Open Circle provides an evidence-based social and emotional learning program for grades K-5 aimed at:

•proactively developing children’s skills for recognizing and managing emotions, empathy, positive relationships, and problem solving

•helping schools develop a community where students feel safe, cared for,
and engaged in learning.

Open Circle provides a unique, whole-school model where all adults in the school community learn to model and reinforce prosocial skills throughout the school day. During Open Circle Class Meetings, students form a circle of chairs, including an empty seat to symbolize that there is always room for another person, voice, or opinion.

Throughout our concert season, we will be raising awareness about the good work of this organization. One way you can help Open Circle is by donating a book that can be used at Open Circle schools in need, to supplement their Open Circle lessons. Please bring your book donations to one of our concerts.

Please visit the Open Circle website at https://www.open-circle.org/resources/recommended-books
for a list of book titles that connect to the Open Circle Curriculum.
